Not every window and door company is a good fit for a home in North Hollywood, CA. North Hollywood sees hot inland summers, and much of its housing dates from the mid-1900s, which puts real demands on older systems. Before you call anyone in the San Fernando Valley, here is what to look for.
Hiring checklist
- Look for an active CSLB C-17 glazing license, or a B general license for jobs that change framing.
- Ask about U-factor and solar heat gain ratings, not just brand names.
- Find out whether they do full-frame or retrofit installs, and why.
- Get the product warranty and installation warranty in writing.
Local to North Hollywood
Strong sun drives up cooling costs, so ask about low-E glass that blocks heat.
Most jobs of this kind need a permit, and in North Hollywood permits go through the City of Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety (LADBS). A good window and door company pulls the permit, schedules inspections and includes both in the price.
What affects the price
Price depends on the number and size of openings, frame material, glass package and whether the install is full-frame or retrofit. Custom sizes, specialty shapes and large sliding or folding doors cost more, and full-frame installs add stucco or siding repair.
Red flags
Watch for red flags: a license number that doesn't match the business name, pressure to sign the same day, a request for full payment up front, or a quote with no written scope. A trustworthy window and door company in North Hollywood will put the work, price and schedule in a written contract.
Next step
Get at least two or three written estimates with the same scope so you are comparing like for like, and confirm the start date, payment schedule and cleanup in writing. Every window and door company listed on this page shows their phone and website directly, with no lead fees.
